  3. Gold Discovery in Idaho by Mary Minton

    February 19, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

"No one ever knows exactly what happened in history. We can’t even all agree on what is happening right now! Unfortunately, evidence left behind was not perfectly laid out to answer our questions. The pieces of information left on purpose, likely had an ulterior motive to make the teller look better." This is a case study on how Captain Pierce eventually found the gold that was critical to funding the Civil War and led directly to the creation of Idaho only two years later. The approach is to gather all the historical perceptions over the last 160 years, and carefully examine them. When so many have claimed a Nez Perce woman was the reason, why are there some who believe it couldn’t have happened? This event is in partnership with the North-Central Idaho Speakers Bureau and the Nez Perce County Historical Society.
