Donate to the Library
The Lewiston Library Foundation was created to assist our city library in
attracting resources for long-term needs. Primarily, this has meant
raising money to be used for improvements to the current library or the
building of a larger library facility. The Foundation has the framework
in place to accept donations of any size and to invest those assets in
short or long-term investments. The Foundation has raised over $1,000,000
from citizens and businesses who care deeply about the future of library
services in Lewiston.
Donations of Materials
Donated items must be in good, clean condition; damaged, moldy,
musty, smelly or dirty items will not be accepted since donated items
are either added to the library collection or sold to raise funds.
Unfortunately, the Library cannot accept:
- Audio cassettes and VHS tapes
- Encyclopedias or dictionaries
- Text books
- Catalogs, brochures, National Geographic or Readers Digest; magazines must not be older than six-months
- Financial or legal items more than two years old
- Board games and toys
We are unable to assign an appraised value for the
donated items. You may wish to refer to IRS Taxpayer Information
Publications 526, Charitable Contributions, and 561, Determining the
Value of Donated Property, for assistance in deciding what value to
claim for your donations. These publications can be found at the IRS website
If donating a large quantity of items, please call 208.798.2525 in advance.
Books and other materials donated become property of the Lewiston
City Library. If items are not added to our collection, they will be
given to the Friends of the Library for their sale.
