Hiring Process

Screening

Following the closing deadline, applications with supporting documentation are forwarded to the hiring department for screening. The screening process generally takes 7 to 10 business days.

Interviewing

Applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted by the hiring department or Human Resources. Depending on the position, applicants may be asked to complete supplemental questions, or provide additional background information. Applicants not selected for an interview will be notified by email or mail once the position has been filled.

Drug Testing

All applicants selected for hire are subject to a background investigation and applicants selected for hire into safety sensitive positions are subject to a pre-employment drug testing. The testing will occur on the day you start work, generally during the Human Resources orientation.

Orientation

Human Resources orientation will occur at the beginning of your first working day of employment. If your work day begins before 8 am you will report to your worksite and begin your department orientation. A time to meet in the Human Resources office will have been established with your supervisor.

Orientation takes approximately one hour. You will need to bring identification, social security numbers, and birth dates for any beneficiaries or family members to be covered on health insurance.

Probationary Period

New hires to the City of Lewiston are subject to a minimum six-month to one-year probationary period that begins on their first day of work. A new hire may be dismissed at any time during the probationary period without cause.
