Whenever a dog bites someone and the skin is broken, the law requires that the dog be quarantined for a period of ten days.
You, as the dog’s owner, have the option to quarantine the animal at the Animal Shelter or a veterinary clinic of your choice. It is your responsibility to pay all associated quarantine expenses. If you elect to quarantine your dog at a veterinary clinic, you are required to notify the Animal Control Officer of where the animal is quarantined.
It is the responsibility of the Police Department to investigate all dog bite incidents. The purpose of this investigation is to determine if a crime was committed and if your dog should be classified as a dangerous dog.
