Cross Connection Program

About Cross Connection

Cross Connections are defined as actual or potential connections between a potable water supply and a non-potable source. The connection could allow contaminants to enter the drinking water supply.

The purpose of the cross connection program is to protect the city-owned water supply system from this potential source of pollution or contamination. The city’s responsibility includes the total water system and extends from the source of supply to the point of delivery to the consumer’s water system. The program requires water customers to adequately protect against cross connections by installing backflow prevention devices. View Lewiston City Code Section 36 Chapter 56 for more details.
