Perfectly Nerdy Periodicals

A stack of magazines and newspapers

Magazines and comic books can be endless sources of entertainment.

Written by Emma Schneider, Library Assistant

The Marvel Universe? Manga? Mindset Changing? The library has a wide array of comic and manga themed periodicals for you to browse and check out! Periodicals are typically defined as being a magazine or newspaper that “periodically” has a new issue released, however, these periodicals are not anything like the Wall Street Journal or Vogue.

Otaku USA: This magazine can be found in the Teen Zone! It contains the typical magazine articles, but with a manga twist. There are feature stories about specific manga and anime, both timeless classics and new releases. It also features reviews of Anime, Manga, Figurines, Cosplay, and Videogames. However, this is not your ordinary magazine, it also features previews of upcoming manga that are being released. Otaku USA is the perfect magazine for lovers of these gorgeously illustrated and animated stories.

Comics: Still thinking about Spiderman No Way Home? Want to know what Archie is up to? Robert Pattinson rekindle your love for the masked billionaire? Did you know you can check out comic books in the Teen Zone? We have an array of Marvel and DC comics for you to peruse. We have Wonder Woman, Spiderman, The Avengers, Captain Marvel, and Batman. Along with these newer comics, we also have old school Archie comics as well so you can keep up with all the Riverdale insanity between binging seasons.

Zines: Also featured in our Teen Zone, in 90s Riot Grrrl fashion, is an exclusive collection of Zines created by local teens/tweens and even adult patrons. These were made as part of the Summer Reading Program and tell a variety of personal stories in a variety of mediums. From the teen student perspective of the quarantine, to favorite parts of Percy Jackson (show coming out soon on Disney+), to someone’s amputee story – these zines add a personal touch and a connection to the community.

Pocket Change Collective: While being small books, these are placed with the comics and zines for a reason. These literally pocket-sized books are perfect for grabbing on the go and flipping through much like a magazine. They are all written with the hopes of inspiring you or changing your mindset. Each one has a different author telling their story and how you can integrate what they have learned into your life.
