Written by Colleen Olive, Youth Services Librarian

Each year in January, the American Library Association (ALA) honors outstanding materials for children and teens at the Youth Media Awards.  The awards include: the Alex Award, Coretta Scott King Award, Children’s Literature Legacy Award, Excellence in Early Learning Digital Media Award, John Newbery Medal, Margaret A. Edwards Award, Michael L. Printz Award, Mildred L. Batchelder Award, Odyssey Award, Pura Belpre Award, Randolph Caldecott Medal, Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal, Schneider Family Book Award, Stonewall Book Award. Theodor Seuss Geisel Award, William C. Morris Award, and the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults.

There is still time to read a few of titles that might be in the running to win an award and they are on the shelves of the Lewiston City Library!  Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds, The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill, I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys (my personal favorite because I adore Historical Fiction), Jennifer Chan is Not Alone by Tae Keller, Those Kids From Fawn Creek by Erin Entrada Kelly, The Last Map Maker by Christina Soontornvat (another personal favorite), Action! How Movies Began by Meghan McCarthy, Blue: A History of the Color as Deep as the Sea and as Wide as the Sky by Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond, Emile and the Field by Kevin Young, Endlessly Ever After: Pick Your Path to Countless Fairy Tale Endings! by Laurel Snyder (ghaa, this is such a cool book), Knight Owl by Christopher Denise (oh so cute) are just a smattering of the amazing titles that are among the list of potential winners.  Let us know if you have a favorite title that is award worthy by filling out the following form:
